In our house, we love spice. Lots of it. Hand us anything spicy and we’ll eat it. With that being said, Tad and I are usually on the same page with food except for one thing… BEANS. Tad abhors beans. I don’t get it. I understand they have a weird texture but they are so so good! How do you hate beans?! As a compromise, I leave the beans in all of our dishes. The compromise being I get to eat them while Tad picks them out. I love compromising.
I decided to make one exception though. He loves chili. I thought I would be the good homemaker and make him chili without beans! I was skeptical (chili without beans? The nerve!) but this actually turned out great.
If you’re like me and have the disadvantage of having a bean hater in your house, this recipe is for you. Or if you decide to give up beans for a day (whyyyyyy??), this recipe is also for you. Ya welcome.
Spicy Bean-less Chili (recipe adapted from here)
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
1 small onion, diced
2 (15oz) cans crushed tomatoes
1 small can diced green chilies
1/2 tsp. salt
6 tsp. chili powder
3 tsp. ground cumin
2-3 Tbsp. siracha, to taste
Fresh or pickled jalapenos (from jar), to taste
Directions
Brown beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions to skillet and cook until beef is completely brown and onions are slightly cooked.
Add all ingredients to crockpot and cook for 2-3 hours on high or 4-6 hours on low. Serve with cheese and sour cream!
Happy bean-less eating!

You left a LIKE on our blog so I thought I’d check you out–lovely blog! I’ve got a Texan sister-in-law and while Texans like beans, a lot of then consider chili a different bean-less dish altogether. I grew up eating beans with chili, but I find I now like it made just with brisket, or venison–and the beans on the side. Haven’t tried it with ground turkey yet, but I’m sure it’s delicious. Good post. Ken
ooh beans on the side… I like that idea! Thanks for checking us out! I love your blog!
