Yesterday I had a little reunion with an old friend. We haven’t really interacted at all lately except for occasional howdy’s and passerby’s. It really got quite sad. But yesterday I reunited with my… kitchen!

I sort of lost touch with the cooking thing over the past couple of months. Call it busyness, laziness, or an obsession with talking about shoes rather than cookies on this ole’ blog here. BUT I decided it was about time I try a gluten-free recipe. And try I did. And succeed I did.

Now that I’m gluten-free (recently talked about here) I’ve been on the hunt for gluten-free recipes to try! I haven’t been in the mood to cook recently but I’m hoping this new change will inspire me to get back in the kitchen. Here are some great recipes I found on the web this week!

Gluten free treats

Changes

So you know this whole gluten-free diet thing?? It’s apparently the new fad and I really don’t want anything to do with it. I totally respect people that want to go gluten-free but it’s kind of expensive and boring. I mean come on… giving up French bread? Oreo cookies? EVERYTHING GOOD? Yeah, no thanks.

Until now.

The gluten-free diet found me. It found me and I’m not too happy about it. My rheumatologist (AKA my new best friend… slash not) told me a couple of weeks ago that I have Celiac Sprue disease. I’m pretty sure I laughed when he first told me on the phone. I mean really?? There is NO WAY. I don’t have the typical symptoms that most celiac people have: basically you writhe in pain and have to find a bathroom ASAP if you sniff gluten. Yes, I realize that’s an exaggeration but it can be a pretty debilitating illness unless you cut out gluten.

You know how people tell you to take a deep breath and sleep on it whenever you’re angry with someone? They say to write a note to the person, tuck it in a drawer, and decide in the morning if you’re going to send it or not. 99% of the time you wake up and realize it was a silly issue and you throw the letter away.

NOT THIS TIME. This is my letter. This is my letter to a certain recipe. A letter to a certain recipe in a certain cookbook that shall not be named. I don’t do well with kitchen failures. And I don’t do well with kitchen failures that are caused by poorly written recipes.

snacks, super bowl

Can I admit something to you? We’re all friends here, right?

I don’t know who’s playing in the Super Bowl.

There. I said it. You know what I like about the Super Bowl? The family, friends, snacks, drinks, and commercials. You know what I don’t really like about the Super Bowl? Football.

I feel like a traitor. A disappointment. I feel so anti-American! BUT I don’t see this fact changing anytime soon.

Anywhooo… who wants snacks?

Super Bowl Snacks

1. Mini Pretzel Dogs

2. Lightened Baked Potato Boats

3. Charred Tomatillo Guacamole

4. Light French Onion Dip

5. Grilled Chicken Bacon Sliders

Go Chiefs!
