Good morning friends! Today, I thought I would share a few details from around the new house! We still have a ways to go on the bigger picture (hello new couch and tv!), but we love how these little details are things we’ve collected along the way!

Over the holidays, as we got holiday cards from our friends and family, we clipped them up on the mantel. Well, come February, I was still not ready to see them go. So, I’ve just been slowing switching them out with pretty pieces of mail. I’m loving the extra touch it gives our mantel.

My dad made us this gorgeous table and we decided it is the focal point of our house. Our house is an open concept ranch and this is at the center. We absolutely love it. Thanks, dad!!

Matt spotted this picture frame, sans backing, at an antique mall so we decided it would be adorable to frame a small chalkboard space. He is so crafty. I love it.

So–I won this Stone Textile pillow via Liz at Grey and Scout and I am obsessed. So gorgeous. Plus, paired with this throw–perfection.

This pouf defines my happy. I bought it about a year ago in anticipation of the moment I would place it in our house. It was the first item I moved in. The hubby hates it, so it resides in my lair, the office, nuzzled in close proximity to my stationery collection. Obviously.

Happy Thursday!
Erin

cornbread 1

Today I’m bringing back an oldie but a goodie. I first published this recipe a couple years ago on my old blog. I’ve since said goodbye to The Compulsive Culinaire and the dang gluten but I love coming back to the old ones! Especially Joy the Baker recipes. They’re the best.

This recipe can easily be adapted to gluten-free (I did and it was delicious!). I love me some easy recipes and this one definitely fits the bill. It’s perfect when you’re craving that sweet treat on Saturday morning! Enjoy!

Lemon Cornmeal Breakfast Cake (recipe adapted from here)

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour*
1/3 cup yellow cornmeal
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1 Tbsp lemon zest
1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted until brown then cooled slightly

*To make gluten-free, use gluten-free all purpose flour instead (cup for cup varieties are the best!). Make sure the flour you use includes xantham gum.

Lemon Glaze:
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
3-4 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice

Directions
Place rack in center of oven and preheat to 350°. In a 9 or 10 inch cast iron skillet, melt butter until browned. Coat the skillet with butter by tilting the pan and then remove the excess butter from the skillet to cool.

Whisk the dry ingredients (flour to salt) together in a large bowl. In a small bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, lemon zest, and butter. Fold the wet ingredients until few lumps remain.

Pour the batter into the skillet and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, whisk the powdered sugar and lemon zest together for the icing.

Let cake cool for 10 minutes. Using a toothpick or fork, poke holes in the cake. Pour the glaze over the cake and let sit for 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

brunch, family, friends, Life, valentine's day

Hello, dear readers! I hope you’re all recovering well from a snazzy Valentine’s day and a relaxing (and/or crazy fun) weekend!

We laid MAJORLY low on V-day evening to catch up on season 2 of House of Cards. Ummm… holy crap??! Can we please talk about this show?! My boys kept me company on the couch while I did some serious stressing about it.

tad and wilson

On Saturday morning I had a girls brunch with some fabulous friends of mine from school. A morning brunch turned into four and a half hours… we blame it on the bottomless mimosas! Catching up with girlfriends is so therapeutic.

Tad, mom, and I met with the wedding cake group on Sunday… I was positively giddy when I left! I can’t wait for the big day! I try to wear my sparkly shoes to all of the wedding activities/meetings. They just always seem to match my wedding mood!

I’ve been catching up on my snail mail lately thanks to Ashley at One Fine Day! These pen pals are too fun!

We stayed up entirely too late last night watching more House of Cards episodes, so we’re moving kiiiiinda slow this morning.

However, like Tad said last night, “If you’re not wobbling in on a Monday, you’re not livin’!”

Happy Monday!

Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! We like to think of this day as a great reason/reminder to say I love you to the people who matter most. Today, we want to say we love our readers. We love your sweet comments and the time you take to share this journey with us!

Today is also a great excuse to write a letter, get crafty, and obviously eat a boat load of candy and sweets!

We are loving this heart craft that we think would be cute to keep up all year long as a darling reminder to say I love you everyday!

We hope you have a great day and a fabulous weekend!
Erin and Natalie
