IMG_0132IMG_0117IMG_0103IMG_0116IMG_0107IMG_0131IMG_0133Y’all if you live in Columbus and you have not gone to Pistacia Vera, you absolutely must.  Nat, E, and I stopped in last Saturday for a ladies’ brunch and to pick up a pistachio mascarpone dacquoise for E’s baptism!  We ordered my favorite croque monsieur and went with the pistachio, strawberries and cream, and cafe au lait macarons.  It’s what dreams are made of…and then Eleanor tried to rip one off our plates.

Can you tell we are loving Natalie being in town?

Today we are headed to the zoo and then to Columbus Commons for a free concert tonight!    If you are in Columbus, definitely stop by!
…and stay tuned tomorrow for a fun giveaway!

Hope you all have a great day!
Erin

A New Year with Meijer!

Good afternoon!  Well, today is my last day in my 20’s.  This year has been the best year of my life as we welcomed our sweet girl into this world.  Having her has made me feel a whole new way about life and health.  Right before I became pregnant with her, I had reshaped my eating habits with the Whole30 program and was working out quite a bit through Class Pass.  Once I became pregnant, my eating habits and pretty much way of life became about what baby girl needed.  I was constantly worried about what I was putting in my body because I knew she was directly getting what I gave her.  I started thinking more about organic products and overall nutrition and not just how to lose those pesky extra pounds.   Now that I have her and am reponsible for both of our nutrition, remembering to keep myself healthy has to be a top priority.  However,  this becomes quite difficult when you don’t know day from night,  you are carrying a nine pound baby all day so you basically only have one free hand at best, and you have absolutely no energy to create a delicious/healthy meal.  Family really saved us the first two weeks, waiting on us hand and foot, but once they left we had to figure out a game plan for staying healthy!

1. Keeping non-perishable items handy like Muscle Milk.  The added  protein helps to keep me full until I can fix a proper meal.  I rarely need more than a few sips so I just keep it in the fridge and sip as needed!

2.  Bananas have always been and always will be my best fruit friend. I had terrible leg cramps during pregnancy and was eating at least 2 bananas a day to keep them at bay.  They are also the perfect vessel for peanut butter and/or Nutella.

3. Matt got a NutriBullet for Christmas so we have been creating smoothies and storing them in individual portions or splitting them for meals with a side of avocado toast.  Delicious!  For a little extra boost, Matt adds protein powder to his!

4. Snack bars.  Everywhere.  I keep them in my nursing caddys, purse, diaper bag, etc…I’ve been stocking up on high protein versions so that they are filling enough that I don’t eat 1,000 of them a day.  Truly, they have been a lifesaver.

It has been a whirlwind year–check back tomorrow for some reflections and more baby pics!–but today I wanted to pop in to share how we are staying healthy in the new year!  What are your resolutions for the year?  What are your tips and tricks for staying healthy?

As always be sure to hop onto Meijer mPerks to load those digital coupons to help save you money on all your health needs this year!

Have a great day!

Erin

Good morning! Phew! Long time no see! Sorry about that!! Since I have started Whole30, Matt and I have been spending a lot more time on meals and dare I say, working out!? Last weekend I attended a fabulous yoga session and vegan brunch–more on that later in the week! I’m feeling strong and healthy! So here’s a little Whole30 friendly fall Pinspiration for ya!

1. Mexican Chicken Chili. Erin over at House of Earnest (a fellow Columbus blogger!) is simply fabulous. Everything she creates is divine. If you haven’t ever checked her out, hop to it!

2. Gold Leaf Pumpkin. I volunteered to decorate a pumpkin to auction off at our school’s fall fest! Ummmmm. This looks easy enough?!

3. Witching Time of Night Print.

4. Chuck Roast with Balsamic and Dijon. Yum.

Happy Tuesday!
Erin

Good morning! Yesterday I started a Whole30 program with some of my girlfriends….we were talked into it by our dear friend Whitney! So, this girl is only eating natural foods for the next 30 days…should be no easy task for the queen of cheese and all things basically terrible for you! When I asked for some serious help, these were Whitney’s go to snacking items!

1. Yay Lunch! Lunchbox.

2. Pumpkin Pie Lara Bar.

3. Raw Cashews.

4. Justin’s Almond Butter with a banana, apples, or celery!

5. Dried Fruit.

6. Pink Bento Box.

7. Trader Joes Spicy Guacamole and Roasted Plantain Chips .

So what are your healthy snacking choices? Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

Happy Thursday!
Erin

Football Recipe Roundup!

28 Thursday Aug 2014

food, football, recipes, snacks, tailgating

Hello, dear readers!

It’s that time of year again! Football season. It’s at this time that either life with your spouse is over as you know it or the fun is just beginning. I’m more of the former… football really isn’t my jig. Sure, I’ll sit and watch a game, eat a wing or five two, and generally have a good time, but my knowledge of football is pretty shameful. The hubby, on the other hand, dreams of football 365 days a year. He wakes up singing the Arkansas fight song. He eats his breakfast while re-hashing the previous night’s games with everyone he knows. He always has football on the tv… even if it’s a rerun of a high school game from 1956.

Yeahhh… football season.

If there’s one great thing about football, it’s the food! Tail-gating, football-watching food is the best. Since tonight kicks off the start of college football (I couldn’t even begin to tell you when it is, who’s playing, or where they’re playing) I thought I’d put together a roundup of some tasty treats I’ve spotted around the web.

Football Recipe Roundup

Honey Baked Teriyaki Chicken Wings– Handle the Heat

Bacon Ranch Deviled Eggs– Parent Pretty

Roasted Tomato and Feta Guacamole– Joy the Baker

Easy No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars– Handmade Charlotte

Three-Cheese Jalapeño Poppers– Damn Delicious

If you’re like me, know you’re not alone. We always have Christmas.

Natalie

P.S.- Don’t forget to enter the Blog-iversary GIVEAWAY! Ends tonight at midnight!! We will announce the winner tomorrow!
